A Day in the Life of a Professional Dancer

A day in the life of a dancer usually begins fairly early in the morning. They start off with a healthy breakfast to get them going and to provide the much-needed energy that they will need for the grueling day ahead. Once they are fueled and ready, it’s off to the dance studio for class.

In professional dance company, most classes will last a couple of hours with lunch break in between. The class will resume after lunch for most of the afternoon. The classes keep the dancer in shape and allow perfection of routines. This is especially important when the dancer is involved in an upcoming performance. It takes some time to perfect the motions and rhythms of the dance routine.

If a dancer is involved in a show, class would end about two hours before the performance is scheduled to start. The dancer would then have some down time to relax and to prepare for the night’s performance. The typical dancer uses this time to shower and rest sore muscles. The dancer will usually eat a light meal before the performance so that they can sustain the needed energy for their performance. The dancer would then do their makeup and hair in accordance with performance standards and report to the performance location to prepare themselves for the show.

Once the performance ends, there are often press meetings or public meetings afterwords for a short time. The dancer gets to meet their fans and adoring public and is often showered with flowers from admirers of the performance. The dancer’s day is finally over and he or she can go home and relax and get some sleep to prepare for the new day.

A dancer’s life is hectic but if you love to dance, you won’t mind the process to fulfill your dreams!
